Casa Lecanda is a small luxury boutique hotel located within the historical center of Merida, Yucatán. Built in restored 19th Century Colonial home, the hotel has been designed to retain its uniqueness with particular attention to detail, architecture and comfort. Ample patios and gardens within the house provide the ideal environment to relax and enjoy the peaceful city of Merida. LOCATION

The hotel is located in the historical center of Merida; capital of the state of Yucatán, Mexico. The city’s rich history, which dates back from the pre-colonial period, has been meticulously preserved till now. The hotel is situated just 2 blocks away from the prestigious Paseo Montejo, ideal location for sightseeing, dining and shopping around the cities most characteristic streets.

The hotel is only 15 minutes away from Merida’s International Airport (MID) and 3.5 hours from Cancun, Tulum and the Mayan Riviera. The city is the perfect place for those who desire to visit archeological sites, colonial cities, and all that the Yucatán peninsula has to offer.

THE HOUSE

In 2009 the new owners along with a team of architects from Yucatan began the process of restoration and adapting the ruined Casa Lecanda into a concept hotel with the main goal to maintain all the authenticity of the house while using most original materials and elements of the home. This process restored most of the original woodwork, clay floors and finishes along with all the comforts of a luxury property.

The house is lived in the three distinct patios connected by the exterior gardens that run the length of the property. The first patio features a fountain surrounded by plants and palms, all enclosed in an original stone floor design. Three Neoclassical facades face this central patio and serve as the entry way to most of the living areas of the home. The second patio connects the day area from the rooms with elegant stone and marble archways that blend with the tropical vegetation and white waters of the pool, an ideal setting to mitigate the tropical climate. The third and last patio is nestled under antique French tiles featuring authentic Meridian hammocks which characterize authentic local traditions of Yucatán living.

The whole concept uses a light color palette, to augment the effect of solar lighting in the interior areas. Authentic high ceilings and massive walls are all softened by the poetic use of architecture and lighting to create a hospitable and relaxing atmosphere. Illumination, interior design and furniture take reference to typical Meridian elements with a contemporary flare, all crafted by skilled local artisans to incorporate seamlessly with the natural environment of the home.

ROOM DESCRIPTIONS:

PATIO ROOMS

Patio rooms are located in the completely restored section of the original house and embody the concept of “stylish comfort” in a traditional Yucatecan home. Situated in front of the tropical garden and swimming pool, these rooms feature Queen or King size beds, minibar, in-room safes, and are each uniquely decorated with the upmost attention to detail for the guest’s maximum comfort. All room’s feature antique mosaic clay floors, wooden beam ceilings and local crafted furniture, custom built to bring out the natural architecture of each room. The bathrooms feature a walk-in rain shower with skylights.

3 Rooms available. 1 with Queen Size Bed, 1 with two Queen Beds, 1 with King Size Bed. (Triple occupancy permitted only in room with two queen beds)

BALCONY ROOMS

The balcony rooms are located on the second floor overlooking the entire home and gardens. Both Balcony rooms feature a wood deck with sitting area to enjoy the afternoon breeze and intimacy of the home. Each feature a four-poster King sized bed, sitting area and a custom designed armoire housing a flat screen TV, mini-bar and in-room safe. Bathrooms offer a large walk-in rain shower and vanity area which all brought to life by the colored mosaic clay floors. These rooms offer abundant natural light during the day and a private cozy setting at night.

GARDEN SUITES

The Garden Suites face a small tropical garden. These rooms are characterized by three archways which open up to an ample bedroom with a four-poster King size bed, a stone bathtub, walk-in rain shower, sitting area, and feature exclusive oil paintings from renowned local Artist Malena Peon. The bathroom and bedroom are divided by a splendid armoire that houses the flat screen television, in-room safe and minibar. The light interior colors of these rooms blend well with the warm tones of the custom woodwork to create a truly romantic setting.

WINE BAR

Warm and elegant, the Wine & Tequila Bar features a fine selection of International & Mexican wines, carefully selected to create a well-rounded collection. Served in an intimate setting, our desire is to help guests discover new wines and enjoy them during their visit. For those who wish to discover the more traditional flavors of Mexico the bar serves and ample selection of Tequilas & Mezcals from the finest distilleries.

PRIVATE DINNERS

A unique experience while staying at Casa Lecanda is a gourmet dinner prepared by one of our distinguished chefs. Each 4 course gourmet dinner features an original menu prepared specifically for that day based on local and season ingredients. All dinners are available by reservation only.

COOKING CLASSES

An unforgettable experience during your visit to the Yucatan is a hands-on cooking class with one of our private chefs. The hotel offers three distinct classes for different tastes:

Introductory Class: 3 hour hands on cooking class with option of Mexican or Yucatecan menu
Gourmet Class: A 4 hour cooking and dining experience, where guests prepare a four-course gourmet meal that is subsequently served and enjoyed in our distinct dining room.
Full Day: Starting with a morning tour this class allows participants to venture into the local market accompanied by our chef to select all the ingredients for the afternoon class. Includes lunch at a gourmet restaurant.

Merida is the ideal starting point to visit the most fascinating natural and historical attractions of the Yucatan. The area is rich with ancient Mayan sites, haciendas, and natural wonders.
