Isla Holbox

острова Хольбош

Off the northeastern end of the Yucatan Peninsula, Holbox Island marks the area where the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea meet. Depending on the winds, the sea can depict the Caribbean’s turquoise or the Gulf’s deeper green. To get there, one can fly from Playa del Carmen or drive west from Cancun towards Merida, and head north to Chiquila where the last leap to Holbox is taken on a local ferry boat.

INFORMATION:

In addition to lounging on kilometric stretches of unspoiled beaches laden with seashells of all sorts and shapes, travelers to Holbox can explore Yalahao Lagoon, search for dolphins in the sea, visit Isla de Pajaros, or simply “kick back”.

The nearly-extinguished hawksbill turtle lays its eggs on the gentle beaches of Holbox.
