In late November, we did an inspection at the Posada de Don Rodrigo, which is located in Antigua (Guatemala). We decided to check this hotel, because just come here on the seventh day of our excursion program “Mesoamerica” – immediately after the visit of Lake Atitlan, and the next day we will be on the way to the east – to the archaeological site of Copan (Honduras).
ANTIGUA GUATEMALA
Antigua is a nice colonial city, many buildings which are made in the style of the Italian Renaissance, the former capital of Guatemala, in 1773 after the strongest earthquake the city was abandoned, and the capital was moved a new location. Over the years, the city has been partially restored. Now it is a town that attracts tourists with its provincial charm, blending colonial and Native American cultures and the beautiful landscape around him – from the city center overlooking the three volcanoes belonging to the mountain range of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. Noteworthy is the fact that Antigua has become one of the first cities in Latin America has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
