In late November, we did an inspection at the Posada de Don Rodrigo, which is located in Antigua (Guatemala). We decided to check this hotel, because just come here on the seventh day of our excursion program “Mesoamerica” – immediately after the visit of Lake Atitlan, and the next day we will be on the way to the east – to the archaeological site of Copan (Honduras).
Antigua is a nice colonial city, many buildings which are made in the style of the Italian Renaissance, the former capital of Guatemala, in 1773 after the strongest earthquake the city was abandoned, and the capital was moved a new location. Over the years, the city has been partially restored. Now it is a town that attracts tourists with its provincial charm, blending colonial and Native American cultures and the beautiful landscape around him – from the city center overlooking the three volcanoes belonging to the mountain range of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. Noteworthy is the fact that Antigua has become one of the first cities in Latin America has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
ОТЕЛЬ “POSADA DE DON RODRIGO”
Hotel is located in heart of the city, right on the main pedestrian street, a stone’s throw from the most popular site Santa Catalina Arch. Offering easy access to major attractions – the Cathedral, the walls of the ruined Church of El Carmen, La Merced Church, and others.
It is located in a historic building Casa de Los Leones (“House of Lions”), having the status of an architectural monument. And the truth is – everywhere in the interior and exterior of the symbolism of this animal shows. As can be seen in the photo, the whole style is sustained in the style of an Old colonial Guatemala, we noticed reverent attention to detail – the furniture, accessories, trim items – all perfectly combined with the location and energy. The hotel features several restaurants, pass daily musical and theatrical performances in the open air in the courtyard of the hotel. In addition, the garden features art gallery – you can buy high-quality artesanials by local masters.
The hotel is the Traveller’s Choice 2014 winner in the category “Best Hotel” by TripAdvisor.
