Swimming with whale shark

whale shark tour cancun

SWIM in Mexico´s beautiful turquoise seas with the Ocean’s LARGEST FISH: The “WHALE SHARK”. These vast sea creatures are found in the waters that divide Holbox and Contoy Islands off the coast of Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo near Cancun.

The WHALE SHARKS are gentle & non threatening to humans. In fact, they actually seem to enjoy their interaction with the people who come to swim with them. They migrate to this part of the world to feed in the plankton-rich area where the Gulf of Mexico joins with the Caribbean Sea from June to September every year.

HIGHLIGHTS

Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to spot the abundant bird & marine life found in this area. On a typical day in these still “UNSPOILED WATERS” you could see a school of wild dolphins jumping beside our boat, manta rays, eagle rays, flocks of flamingos, stingrays, ibis, egrets and pelicans.

The boat leaves Punta Sam pier at 7:45 am and takes approximately one hour to reach the whale sharks´ primary feeding ground. On the way the tour guide will tell you more about these incredible creatures and explain how best to interact with them. Once we arrive, the guide will take you to swim with the whale sharks for approximately 3 hours.

Afterwards, we will stop off at Contoy Island to admire the dolphins, turtles, flamingos which inhabit this paradise island.

After visiting Contoy Island we will continue by boat to the snorkel with the abundant fish and corals on the stunning Caribbean reef near Isla Mujeres Island.

After snorkeling, we will enjoy a delicious freshly prepared shrimp ceviche.

We will be back at Punta Sam pier between 2 and 3 pm.
